Hip osteoarthritis

Hip osteoarthritis is the most widespread chronic disease of the musculoskeletal apparatus.

Hip joint is the biggest joint of the organism which joins hip joint with pelvis having a big load.

Hip osteoarthritis can develop under the influence of different factors which lead to the damage of cartilaginous tissue and, consequently, joints breaking.

Widespread reasons of the disease:

  • Traumas;
  • Excessive physical load;
  • Genetic predisposition.

Hip osteoarthritis stages

There are three stages of hip osteoarthritis.

Stage I. In case of a long period of physical load a patient has painful feelings in an inguinal area. Pain disappears at rest. In order to diagnose the Stage I of hip osteoarthritis a patient needs to undergo X-ray examination.

Stage II. A typical symptom of this stage is pain which is of more intensive nature and can appear even in case of little physical load. Limp appears, movements limitation develops, muscles strength decreases.

Stage III. There are more distinct symptoms. Pain becomes permanent and can appear even in case of a moderate physical load, for example, stairs walking. In some cases there is leg reduction because of pelvis and spine warp. Also a distinct limitation of movements is observed.

Treatment

At stage I, II conservative treatmentis offered to a patient. It includes magnetotherapy (BTL 6000, superinductive magnet), laser therapy (Hil BTL600), intraarticular injections of platelet-rich plasma and Arthrex SVF (stromal vascular fraction).

At stage IIIonly surgery is required. In our clinic total hip replacement is performed using modern minimally invasive technique “Direct Anterior Approach” which allows to implant a hip prosthesis via intermuscular space. This allows to keep the whole muscular cast around the joint. Several hours after the surgery a patient will be able to walk without assistance stepping on the extremity which was operated.

Every patient is individual and requires an individual approach on implant choice. In our clinic we use such implants: Aesculap (Germany), Euromed (Germany) and Evolutis (France).

Every patient gets a complete after-treatment care (rehabilitation) during his/her stay in the clinic with rehabilitation doctor assistance. In three days a patient is discharged.

Surgical treatment of joint fractures

Joints fracture is a partial or a total damage of joints’ integrity which is caused by mechanical cause. Fractures can be open or closed.

Treatment

In our clinic there are different kinds of treatment depending on the type of a fracture. In case of an open fracture with an infected wound it is treated with the help of outer fixation devices and medications (antibiotic therapy according to recommendations of Proimplant Foundation Germany).

For closed fractures metal osteosynthesis of a lower extremity joint is performed.

This is a surgical treatment of closed fractures which means reposition and fixation of bones’ fragments with metal constructions and implants (plates, screws, intramedullary nails, pins).

Depending on a type and complexity of a fracture a corresponding fixator is chosen and placed. After the surgery a patient returns to his/her routine life rhythm.
